MEDIA RELEASE
02 SEPTEMBER 2015
Over the last three years the Ultimate Braai Master has taken viewers on an unprecedented armchair road trip to some of the most epic outdoor locations in Southern Africa and has tipped the scale on what can be cooked on the open fire. But if you think you’ve figured out the game dynamics of Ultimate Braai Master, you’d be wrong!
Produced by Cooked in Africa Films, the fourth Season of South Africa’s most-watched cooking show is back, and this year it’s bigger, harder and hotter than ever before. Ultimate Braai Master, Game On promises to deliver more twists and turns; more suspense; and more smoke and tears than ever before. The fires are bigger, but so are the egos and this combination makes for the most combustible season yet!
With Robertsons Herbs & Spices as title sponsor of the Series, Judges Executive Chef, Bertus Basson and Chef, Petrus Madutlela have placed a great deal of emphasis on how well teams are able to combine spices and enhance flavours. Not only do the 13 competing teams have to travel for 60 days and face-off in grueling challenges to stay in the game, but they’re also required to fight to get their hands on the Spice Master cash prize – which is awarded to the team that credibly and consistently adds that quintessential spice-factor to the Braai!
And that’s not the only new twist! This year, teams travel to all new destination gems and are forced to test their mettle and resilience as they set up camp at every new location in challenging winter conditions. The Series kicks off at the Gariep Dam Forever Resort in the Karoo and from here teams self-drive their Suzuki Sx4 All Grip vehicles across some of the country’s most rugged and treacherous backroads. They cover a massive 7000 kilometres, and with SA Tourism on board once again, teams get to take a Sho’t Left around every bend to showcase the best of South African destinations from the stormy seas of the Wild Coast and splendid views of the Blyde River Canyon to the green hills of the Drakensberg. But that’s not all! Not only does every eliminated team receive a South African Tourism voucher to continue their journey, they also get to share their prize with a local school to demonstrate the spirit of the braai – effectively opening a window of discovery to young learners who may never have experienced the wonder and excitement of traveling the country before, and enabling them to get a taste of the abundance and beauty of South Africa!
With fewer teams having made the cut this year and more female contestants dominating the game than ever before, Series host Justin Bonello has some unexpected surprises up his sleeve, which puts teams on the edge of their camping chairs throughout the competition.
When it comes to how this year’s competition plays out, the biggest change and the toughest challenge is the group dynamics: Teams from different walks of life are divided into one of three crews that are required to work together – whether they like each other or not! If they don’t follow the judges’ brief and work together effortlessly as one unit, the entire crew is forced to go head to head against each other in nail-biting eliminations, where one team is sent packing after each challenge!
Other than the Spice Master rewards and South African Tourism vouchers, this year’s competitors are competing for more than the R500 000 cash, a brand new Suzuki Sx4 All Grip vehicle valued at R319 000 and the title of SA’s Ultimate Braai Master, they’ll also be traveling to the USA to compete as Team South Africa at the renowned World Food Championships in Florida in October 2016!
Sponsored by Robertsons Herbs and Spices and supported by Coca Cola, Suzuki and South African Tourism, Ultimate Braai Master Game On has managed to elevate an already entertaining format into a sizzling mix of action-packed drama that will enthrall die hard fans and leave local viewers wanting more.
Catch all the Season four action weekly on e.tv from Sunday, 20 September at 4pm, with repeats every Saturday at 1pm.
If you missed your shot at claiming a spot around South Africa’s hottest fire, don’t worry! Entries for Season five open in November so you better start polishing your lucky braai tongs!
